A young patient from Georgia, Europe, has received life-changing treatment for a rare and complex congenital heart disease at Medstar Hospitals in Tadepalli. The boy was born with a poorly developed left lung and consistently low oxygen levels.
Previously, he had undergone four major surgeries and stenting procedures in his native Georgia. However, the Blalock-Taussig (BT) shunt surgery performed earlier on his right lung provided only minimal blood flow, resulting in his condition progressively deteriorating.
A specialized team at Medstar Hospitals evaluated the child and developed a customized surgical plan. Led by the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) team, they successfully performed a Right Ventricle to Pulmonary Artery (RV-PA) reconstruction using a prosthetic graft. The patient has since demonstrated gradual but significant recovery, with notable improvement in his oxygen saturation levels.
