Dr. Shashank Joshi, a distinguished endocrinologist from Mumbai, has been awarded the prestigious Hossein Gharib Educational Lectureship at the 35th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE 2026). This significant honor was bestowed upon him in Las Vegas on April 24, 2026.
Recognized for his outstanding contributions to clinical research and education, Dr. Joshi is the first endocrinologist from outside the United States to receive this esteemed lectureship. The AACE annual meeting, a major global gathering, convened thousands of specialists to discuss advances in endocrine and metabolic health.
Dr. Joshi's lecture, titled "Impact of Iodine on Thyroid Autoimmunity, Goiter and Oncogenesis," underscored the delicate balance required for iodine intake. He explained that both insufficient and excessive iodine levels can contribute to thyroid disorders, including autoimmune hypothyroidism, goiter, nodules, and potentially cancer.
He further elaborated that modern factors, such as environmental exposures and lifestyle changes, interact with iodine imbalance to reshape disease patterns. Dr. Joshi stressed that restoring overall patient balance is key, moving beyond solely biochemical assessments for more holistic care.
