A month-long battle with Valley fever has tragically ended the life of Indian software developer Chiranjeevi Kolla in the United States. The 37-year-old succumbed to the fungal infection, which primarily affects the lungs, in California earlier this month. Kolla's health deteriorated rapidly after experiencing flu-like symptoms in April. Initial hospital visits led to a diagnosis of severe pneumonia, but further tests revealed the presence of Valley fever, a fungal disease contracted from inhaling spores in California's soil. Despite intensive medical care, including a period on a ventilator in the ICU, Kolla's condition worsened, leading to his death. His cousin has initiated a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $300,000. These funds are designated for his funeral rites in both California and India, outstanding medical bills from his 30-day hospital stay, and living expenses for his wife and five-year-old son. The fundraising effort has already seen significant support, reaching 60% of its target through over 2,700 contributions.
