Care Home Fails Residents: Safeguarding Lapses Exposed
12 Aug
Summary
- Inspectors found serious safeguarding concerns, with incidents unreported.
- Residents experienced harm due to unreported challenging behaviours.
- Failure to treat pressure sores led to open wounds for one person.

Inspectors have rated a local care home as 'inadequate' following visits in April and May, citing significant concerns regarding safeguarding and resident care. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that critical incidents, including residents exhibiting "sexually disinhibited behaviours" and other challenging behaviours, were frequently left unreported or unaddressed.
This failure to act put residents at risk of avoidable harm. Additionally, the report detailed instances where residents lost weight without referrals to GPs or dieticians, and pressure sores were not treated, resulting in open wounds for at least one individual.
Further issues included insufficient risk assessments for staff with criminal convictions. Following a "serious incident" referenced in the report, staff stated that management did not provide adequate specialist support or formal debriefs. Management's own checks also failed to identify the serious problems discovered by inspectors, who noted a lack of necessary training for staff in dementia care and managing challenging behaviours.
