A 17-week pregnant woman in Haryana is critically ill, remaining on ventilator support, after suffering severe complications from an illegal abortion performed at an unauthorized clinic in Rewari. The joint operation by health, police, and drug control authorities led to the raid of a clinic in Chilhad and the arrest of its operator, Sukhbir Singh Yadav.
The woman, identified as Priyanka, reportedly sought the abortion due to having two daughters, following a sex determination test. After initial medication, the procedure was allegedly carried out at the clinic, leading to her deteriorating condition. She was subsequently transferred to hospitals in Rewari and then Jaipur.
This incident has amplified concerns regarding female foeticide and Haryana's declining sex ratio at birth. Despite recent government enforcement measures, the sex ratio at birth has continued to fall. An FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to identify any other individuals involved in the suspected racket.
