A Brisbane woman has achieved an extraordinary feat by giving birth to four naturally conceived identical quadruplets. This highly unusual pregnancy, estimated at a 'one in 15 million' occurrence, is believed to be the first of its kind in Australia.
The 34-year-old mother, who already had four children, was surprised by the pregnancy and even more so by the discovery of quadruplets. She delivered the four girls, Emily, Harriet, Catherine, and Alexa, via C-section at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. The babies were born at just over 28 weeks gestation.
Experts describe the spontaneous conception of identical quadruplets as exceptionally rare, with very few cases documented globally. Despite the high-risk nature of the pregnancy, the mother navigated it without complications for herself or her babies. The newborns will require an extended stay in the hospital for care and monitoring.
To support the growing family, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been established to assist with medical expenses, travel, daily living costs, and the purchase of a larger vehicle.
