13 Apr
Summary
- Woman detained by ICE days before critical surgery.
- Ovarian cyst surgery delayed, causing severe pain.
- Congresswoman demands release for urgent medical care.

A 23-year-old woman from Burnsville, Minnesota, Andrea Pedro-Francisco, is enduring significant pain due to a delayed ovarian cyst removal. Her surgery was scheduled for early February, but Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested her days prior. Pedro-Francisco was subsequently transferred to a detention facility in El Paso, Texas, and her lawyer reports she has not received adequate medical attention.
Representative Angie Craig has publicly called for Pedro-Francisco's immediate release, highlighting the critical nature of her medical condition, which she stated could be life or death. Craig also revealed that her office is currently tracking 20 cases of inadequate medical care within ICE detention centers, with a quarter of these involving serious health issues. Pedro-Francisco originally relocated to Minnesota in 2019 with her mother to seek asylum.
