The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) Department is now targeting ice cream manufacturing units following previous inspections of hotels and restaurants. A recent statewide operation involved raids on 45 facilities, uncovering significant hygiene lapses and the use of expired ingredients.
During these inspections, a total of 70 food samples were collected, including ice cream, milk, and various additives, for laboratory analysis. The FSDA reported seizing expired products, such as biscuits and milk sweeteners, from specific businesses like Savara Ice Cream Café in Bengaluru and M N Enterprises.
Further findings indicated unhygienic conditions at the Gemini Ice Cream Manufacturing Unit in Raichur and labeling deficiencies at the John Candy Ice Cream facility in Mysuru. The FSDA stated that such special inspection drives will continue across the state to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, with legal action planned against violators.
