For over a decade, volunteers have been crafting vital sanitary kits to support women and girls in developing nations. The Yorkits project, running for 13 years, focuses on producing washable feminine hygiene kits. These kits are crucial for ensuring girls can attend school consistently, preventing them from missing education due to their periods.
Each kit is designed to last approximately three years, equating to around 200 days of schooling not missed. This initiative, run by the York Ainsty Rotary Club, has a significant impact, with volunteers completing 128 kits at a previous event, safeguarding over 25,000 days of education.
Volunteers are preparing for their annual workshop, scheduled to take place at York Minster on March 5, coinciding with International Women's Week. This event serves as a significant boost to their kit-making efforts, enabling them to continue providing these life-changing resources. Interested individuals can find opportunities to volunteer through the Minster's events page.
