On Thursday, September 10, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) conducted a significant food safety inspection drive across Hyderabad. Ten enforcement teams meticulously examined 21 restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, hotels, and hostels. During these inspections, a concerning range of hygiene and food safety violations were identified.
These lapses included the use of spoiled meat and vegetables, evidence of cockroach and rodent infestation, and generally unhygienic premises. Officials also noted inadequate segregation of food types, improper record-keeping, unclean refrigeration units, and poor personal hygiene among staff. Thirteen food samples were collected for adulteration testing, and infested food items were immediately discarded.
Consequently, TG SAFE issued improvement notices to establishments like 7 Sisters Restaurant and Habitat Cafe, with re-inspections planned. Casa Laban and Sarvi Food Court will receive show-cause notices, potentially leading to penalties. More severely, the FSSAI licenses of Lakshmi Sri Balaji Sweets and Bakery, Girl Friend Mandi, Kholani's Fine Dine Restaurant, and Kakatiya Tiffins Meals and Snacks were suspended, mandating an immediate halt to their operations.
