- Castle Hill Hospital has installed the first stoma-friendly toilet.
- Changes aim to provide dignified facilities for stoma bag changes.
A significant improvement for stoma patients has been implemented in Hull and East Yorkshire hospitals, with the introduction of adapted toilets. These facilities now include essential features such as shelves for equipment, mirrors, coat hooks, and dedicated disposable waste systems.
The initiative was championed by Jenna Robinson, founder of the Beverley Stoma Support Group, who has been campaigning for such changes. She highlighted the difficulties faced by stoma patients in finding appropriate and dignified facilities for changing stoma bags.
Castle Hill Hospital has seen the installation of the first stoma-friendly toilet, and accessible toilets at Hull Royal Infirmary are also slated for upgrades. Robinson expressed her elation, calling the changes "an incredible little change, but it's a massive change to all of us."
