Cancer Survivor's Hospital Wedding Becomes Anniversary Surprise

A year after exchanging vows in a hospital setting, Sylvia and Doug Bindner were treated to a special anniversary celebration at UofL Hospital. The couple's original wedding, planned for October 2025, was moved up to allow Sylvia to be well enough to marry while undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. Hospital staff swiftly organized a ceremony for the couple and 40 guests. The day after their wedding, Sylvia underwent surgery to remove a 12-pound ovarian tumor, which was successful. She has since been in remission and required no further chemotherapy or medication.

To commemorate their first anniversary, hospital staff and Metz Culinary Management surprised the couple with a special meal and accommodations. This heartwarming gesture highlighted the bond formed between the couple and the hospital team during their challenging journey. The hospital shared photos of the couple's wedding and anniversary celebration on Instagram, wishing them a happy anniversary.
