Hospital Server Crash: Heaters Blamed for Chaos
20 Jan
Summary
- Main server crashed Monday morning, disrupting medical services.
- Short circuit from heaters damaged UPS batteries, causing shutdown.
- Patients faced hours-long waits for OPD cards and diagnostics.

A severe disruption of medical services occurred at the civil hospital on Monday morning when its main server crashed, significantly impacting operations. The technical failure was reportedly triggered by a short circuit resulting from the extensive use of room heaters, which damaged UPS batteries and shut down the server housed in the basement.
This digital outage paralyzed critical hospital functions, including registration, X-ray, ultrasound, and blood testing. Patients seeking OPD cards and diagnostics faced wait times of three to five hours, with many redirected to the mother and child care building, causing massive congestion.
Principal Medical Officer Dr. RS Chauhan cited the continuous and improper use of heaters as the cause and has ordered their immediate removal from non-essential areas. The incident has led to a considerable backlog, with the hospital typically processing nearly 4,000 OPD cards daily.
