Patients at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS trust's Farnham Road Hospital in Guildford are finding solace and recovery through a unique gardening project. Dubbed "Green Roots to Recovery," the program equips patients with plants and gardening tools, allowing them to cultivate gardens within the ward and in nearby outdoor spaces.
This initiative, supported by the trust's charitable arm, seeks donations to fund necessary materials. Camina Bowen Czerwiec, a program developer, highlighted gardening's significant positive impact on mental health, confidence, and overall recovery.
The program is currently being offered to patients on two inpatient mental health wards. Patients have reportedly shared positive feedback about the scheme and the visible progress being made. The trust is actively fundraising, having raised £160 towards its £500 target for essential equipment.
