Govt Defends Hospital Worker in Egg Dropping Video

A video circulating on social media showed a worker at Govt Stanley Hospital placing boiled eggs near patients, with one egg near a plastered arm and another near a leg. The incident, captured in a 40-second clip, prompted an inquiry by the Tamil Nadu health department.

Contrary to initial expectations of investigating patient care, the department defended the employee, describing them as sincere. Health minister K G Arunraj stated the patient had requested the egg be left on the bed due to the absence of attendants, and that the egg's shell remained unbroken, indicating no hygiene violation.

The inquiry report, based on departmental heads' findings, further alleged that the person who filmed the video had demanded Rs 20,000 from the employee. This demand allegedly led to the whistleblower releasing the footage with malicious intent after the employee refused to pay.

This stance has been met with disbelief and criticism. Some doctors and former patients expressed that even free treatment does not justify disrespectful patient care. Concerns were raised about why eggs were not served properly and why no action was taken regarding patient rights or supervisory failures.
