Inquest Reveals "Gross Failure" in Patient's Care
27 Aug
Summary
- Surgeon faced scrutiny over patient's post-surgery care.
- Hospital failed to provide fluids for 24 hours post-operation.
- Coroner cited 'gross failure' in patient's fluid management.

A recent inquest has shed light on the substandard care provided to 77-year-old Arthur Brooke Craig following surgery at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Coroner Gareth Jones concluded that the hospital committed a "gross failure" by withholding fluids from Mr Craig for a full 24 hours after his operation. Furthermore, medical staff were reportedly unaware of his pre-existing heart condition, despite it being noted in his medical records.
Mr Craig's daughter, Professor Cathy Craig, stated that the family had raised "grave concerns" about her father's treatment. She expressed that the inquest provided some answers, particularly regarding the failure to inform them of treatment options and risks, and the oversight of his underlying health issues.
