Hospital Apologizes for Conflicting Advice in Baby's Death

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust has issued a sincere apology to a family following the death of their newborn daughter, Lottie. The trust acknowledged that conflicting medical advice and a delay in antibiotic treatment caused unnecessary worry. Lottie was pronounced deceased at Leeds General Infirmary on December 23, 2023.

During pregnancy, Lottie's mother received contradictory information about whether she needed antibiotics after testing positive for Group B strep, a condition that can be dangerous for newborns. The inquest heard that antibiotics should have been administered during labor to minimize transmission risk, but this critical step was missed by the trust.

While doctors stated Lottie was born too early for prenatal antibiotics to be effective, an internal review labeled the care as 'suboptimal.' The family reported poor and dismissive communication from the trust, adding to their distress and mistrust.
