20 Aug
Summary
- Patient endured seven hours of pain before seeing a doctor.
- Fever of 39 degrees Celsius was not treated promptly.
- No formal diagnosis was given before hospital discharge.

Tammi Radcliffe, 31, experienced sudden, severe abdominal and pelvic pain while shopping at ASDA, prompting an ambulance call. Arriving at Royal Preston Hospital on Saturday around 4pm, she was triaged but subsequently left in the waiting room due to a lack of beds.
Radcliffe reported crying in pain on the corridor floor, with her temperature reaching 39 degrees Celsius. She claims she was not given stronger medication until nearly 9pm and received IV antibiotics at 2:30am, administered while she was still on the floor.
Her husband expressed frustration over repeated requests for pain relief and reassessment being largely ignored. He noted a lack of proper observations, despite blood tests showing raised infection markers. Radcliffe eventually saw a doctor at 11pm, but left the hospital on August 16 without a formal diagnosis, awaiting further scans.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals stated they are in direct contact with the family, investigating the concerns through their formal complaints process, and expressed regret over aspects of the care received.
