Garden House Hospice Care in Hertfordshire has announced the closure of multiple services reliant entirely on charitable income. This decision stems from a projected funding shortfall of £1.1m beginning April 2026. The affected services include a dementia nurse, minibus transport, and wellbeing hubs, among others.
Rising costs and increasing demand for care have contributed to an "exceptionally challenging financial period." Chief executive Lisa Hunt stated that all options were exhausted to prevent these cuts, which are necessary to safeguard the hospice's essential end-of-life care.
The hospice aims to ensure it remains sustainable and continues to provide vital specialist care, including its Inpatient Unit and Hospice at Home services. Staff are working to support those affected by the closures and direct them to alternative resources.
