New Hospital Parking Secured Amid Raac Concerns
31 Jul
Summary
- New Hinchingbrooke Hospital will retain current parking capacity.
- Raac concerns identified in current hospital structure.
- New facility expected to be operational by end of 2032.

The new Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, is set to begin construction with a commitment to maintaining the current number of parking spaces. This decision comes as the existing facility was found to have issues with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac), impacting its structural integrity.
The North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a company to build the replacement hospital, which is part of the government's New Hospital Programme. Project manager Deborah Lee emphasized that replacing displaced parking was crucial, especially for local residents.
The new hospital, slated to open by the end of 2032, will be located on the southern corner of the existing site. This strategic placement will allow for the continuation of services, including A&E and maternity care, throughout the construction period. The development will also feature single rooms for every inpatient.
