A critical high-risk pregnancy case involving a 33-week pregnant woman was successfully managed at Lady Goschen Hospital. The patient, initially from Uttara Kannada, was referred from Udupi district due to severe antepartum haemorrhage and a high-risk diagnosis of placenta accreta or percreta.
Specialists determined the woman had placenta percreta with significant urinary bladder damage. The complex, four-hour surgery required the combined expertise of obstetricians, urologists, and general surgeons to address the potential involvement of nearby organs like the intestines.
Led by Dr. Nikhil Shetty, the obstetrics team, alongside urologists who reconstructed the bladder, ensured the mother's survival. A dedicated anesthesiology team monitored her vital signs throughout the procedure. The premature baby born during the surgery received immediate pediatric emergency care and was stabilized in the neonatal intensive care unit.
