Baby Formula Tainted? Heavy Metals Found in Top Brands

Recent testing has identified "potentially concerning" levels of inorganic arsenic and other heavy metals in more than half of the infant formulas analyzed. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has acknowledged moderate evidence of arsenic affecting infant growth, and the Department of Health and Human Services has increased testing for contaminants. However, no federal standards currently exist for arsenic or heavy metal limits in baby formula.
Despite the findings, all tested products remain within current federal safety guidelines. Consumer Reports, a non-profit testing organization, found that 26 out of 49 tested formulas contained contaminants at levels considered concerning against stringent health benchmarks. Inorganic arsenic, a known carcinogen, poses a higher risk to infants due to their smaller body size and rapid metabolism.
