Summary
- Dozens of girls fell ill due to heat and humidity.
- Eight students were hospitalized, three unconscious.
- All Kasturba schools in the district were ordered closed.

On May 21, 2026, around a dozen girls studying at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Balrampur suddenly fell ill. Officials reported that the students experienced symptoms such as fainting, vomiting, and headaches, attributing the cause to the prevailing heat and humidity.
Eight of the affected students were admitted to the district hospital, with three of them being unconscious upon arrival. Emergency physicians confirmed that all hospitalized students were in stable condition and receiving treatment. A team of doctors was dispatched to the school to examine the remaining students.
In response to the incident and the intense weather conditions, the District Magistrate ordered a holiday for all Kasturba schools within the district. This measure was taken as a precautionary step to protect students from the ongoing heatwave.
