22 Jul
Summary
- Blood drive scheduled for July 25 at Christ Lutheran Church.
- Event commemorates Heath student Matthew Offers Jr.'s life.
- American Red Cross faces emergency blood shortage.

A memorial blood drive is scheduled for July 25 at Christ Lutheran Church in Heath, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This marks the sixth year for the event, which honors Heath High School student Matthew Offers Jr.
Matthew Offers Jr. was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and faced numerous complications throughout his young life. He passed away on September 16, 2018, shortly after his ninth birthday.
The blood drive takes place as the American Red Cross is currently experiencing an emergency blood shortage. Blood supply reportedly decreased by nearly 25% in June, with donated blood essential for transfusions for patients, including those undergoing cancer treatment.
Individuals who cannot attend the Heath event can make donations at the American Red Cross donation center located at 225 North 21st St. in Newark. Appointments can be scheduled via the Red Cross website. Donors may be eligible for discounts on movie tickets or Kings Island passes.
