Vande Bharat Dashes Heart for Transplant

The heart of a 36-year-old brain-dead individual was moved from Surat to Ahmedabad on the Vande Bharat Express, completing the journey in 3 hours and 37 minutes.
The donor, Mithun Lakshman Swain, was declared brain-dead at Surat's New Civil Hospital on July 30. His family generously consented to donate his heart, kidneys, and liver.
Following its arrival in Ahmedabad, a green corridor was established by the Railway Protection Force and Gujarat police to ensure the swift transfer of the heart to the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre.
Simultaneously, the donor's kidneys and liver were transported by road and successfully transplanted into three recipients at the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel lauded the coordinated effort, highlighting the Vande Bharat's speed in facilitating this life-saving mission.
