On World Hearing Day, the ENT Department of Government General Hospital (GGH) in Ongole conducted a crucial medical screening camp at Bandlamitta Girls High School. The event focused on raising awareness about hearing health among students. GGH Superintendent Dr. S. Manikya Rao highlighted that approximately 90 percent of hearing issues are preventable or manageable with early intervention and proper treatment.
During the camp, nearly 100 students received hearing examinations. Dr. Prabhakara Rao, Head of the ENT Department, noted that such awareness and screening programs are integral to World Hearing Day initiatives, reaching from community to school levels. GGH expressed its willingness to adopt Bandlamitta School for ongoing medical support and health awareness, pending necessary approvals.
Medical professionals engaged students in an interactive session, explaining the ear's natural cleaning process and advising against inserting objects like earbuds into the ear canal. Emphasis was placed on the early detection of congenital hearing loss and the importance of seeking immediate medical advice for any suspected hearing issues. Students were also encouraged to foster an inclusive environment for those using hearing aids.
