Inquest Reveals Gaps in Head Injury Advice
24 Feb
Summary
- A man died nine days after a minor fall in Bucharest.
- He was on blood thinners known to risk brain bleeding.
- Patient leaflets lacked head injury guidance.

A corporate finance specialist, formerly KPMG's youngest partner, died in London after a minor fall down steps in Bucharest. Nine days following the incident, he passed away in a hospital due to a brain haemorrhage. The specialist had been prescribed apixaban, a blood thinner, for heart issues. This medication is known to carry a risk of causing brain bleeding after a head injury.
During an inquest held last month, it was discovered that the patient information leaflets accompanying the blood-thinning drug offered no specific advice for individuals who sustain a head injury. The assistant coroner expressed concern that this lack of guidance could lead to future fatalities, highlighting a potential systemic issue in patient safety information.
