Two individuals, a six-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman, died in separate suspected snakebite incidents in Hazaribag district's Keredari block on Saturday night. Their families alleged that the local community health centre had no medical personnel or antivenom available when they arrived. The victims were subsequently transferred to Hazaribag Sadar Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Enraged villagers placed the bodies at the health centre and staged a road blockade for approximately 10 hours, demanding accountability and financial compensation. Accusations were also made against a medical officer for allegedly treating patients while intoxicated.
Following negotiations, officials committed to removing the CHC in-charge within 15 days and investigating the specific allegations against the intoxicated medical officer. The Block Development Officer also assured improvements to the health centre's facilities.
