Haryana Sex Ratio Sees Improvement Amidst District Disparities

Haryana's sex ratio at birth (SRB) has shown an overall improvement, rising to 920 in 2025 from 907 in 2024. This positive trend was noted in a report by the state's Directorate General of Health Services. Significant gains were observed in districts like Faridabad, Jhajjar, and Nuh.

However, the progress is not uniform across all districts. Gurugram and Palwal registered only marginal improvements in their SRBs. Notably, Sonepat was the sole district where the sex ratio declined, falling from 901 to 891.

Panchkula stood out with the highest SRB of 970 in 2025, followed by districts like Fatehabad and Charkhi Dadri which also showed strong performance. Gurugram, despite a slight increase, remained among the districts with the lowest SRBs, ranking third from the bottom.

In terms of institutional deliveries, 507,593 out of 525,129 recorded births in 2025 occurred in healthcare facilities. The state also reported 5,566 infant deaths and 2,157 stillbirths during the same period, with Rohtak recording the highest numbers for both.

The Health Department conducts periodic review meetings and intensifies awareness campaigns, especially in rural areas. Enforcement against illegal sex determination and abortions has also been increased. Maternal and child health services are continuously monitored through inspections.
