Haryana Launches Digital Health System for Mothers
6 Oct
Summary
- Digital system tracks pregnant women and newborns for safety.
- Real-time monitoring from registration to postnatal care.
- Automated alerts aid timely antenatal care and follow-ups.
Haryana's health minister, Arti Singh Rao, has introduced 'Samriddhi' (Safe Motherhood and Child Health Initiative), a new digital system aimed at curbing maternal and neonatal mortality. This system, developed by the National Health Mission (NHM) Haryana, will meticulously track pregnant women and newborns across the state.
The initiative ensures comprehensive monitoring from initial antenatal registration through delivery and up to 42 days post-birth. It particularly focuses on high-risk pregnancies, providing crucial support and timely interventions.
A unique ID will be generated for every pregnant woman upon registration on the Samriddhi portal. This allows for real-time, longitudinal tracking across all healthcare facilities, both public and private. Healthcare providers will receive automated alerts for due appointments and follow-ups.
Operations are bolstered by a dedicated Samriddhi portal, a state command centre, and 102 call centres. These centres will oversee service delivery, track missed appointments, and manage critical referrals, ensuring continuity of care.
High-risk pregnant women will be clinically assessed at Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) camps. To prevent delays, each woman will be assigned to a specific healthcare facility based on her risk profile, including private centres if requested.
The initiative also extends to actively monitoring newborns of high-risk mothers and infants discharged from special care units. This includes tracking vital signs, immunisation status, breastfeeding, and overall growth. Successful implementation relies on strong collaboration between NHM, health services, medical colleges, private hospitals, and the women and child development department.
