Haryana Sees Gains and Declines in Girls-to-Boys Ratio at Birth

As of November 13, 2025, Haryana's sex ratio at birth has improved to 912 girls per 1,000 boys, up from 904 in the same period last year. The state's sex ratio had previously risen to 905 between January 1 and August 18, 2025, up from 899 in the same period in 2024.

Officials attribute the current rise to sustained efforts by the Health and Women and Child Development departments. However, the news is not all positive, as three districts - Sirsa, Sonipat, and Charkhi Dadri - saw declines in the girls-to-boys ratio.

To address the issue, the state's Health Department is taking strict action. The Senior Medical Officer of CHC Gopi in Charkhi Dadri has been charge-sheeted for poor sex ratio performance, and show-cause notices have been issued to several other officials. Special drives have also been ordered to register all unregistered female children below one year, especially in districts with falling ratios.

Additionally, the department is working to strengthen reverse tracking of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and abortion cases beyond 12 weeks, particularly where a couple has one or more daughters. The state police have also been directed to trace phone records and location history of accused in cases of the sale of illegal abortion kits.
