24 Mar
Summary
- 18,000 individuals aged 18-45 died from heart attacks in Haryana between 2020-2026.
- Unhealthy lifestyle, stress, and poor diet are identified as primary causes.
- Structural heart issues and SADS also contribute significantly to these deaths.

A concerning report from Haryana reveals that approximately 18,000 people aged 18 to 45 succumbed to heart attacks between 2020 and 2026. This figure, presented to the Assembly, has prompted investigations into the underlying causes of this alarming trend.
Medical experts widely attribute the surge in heart disease among young adults to modern lifestyles. Factors such as lack of physical activity, high stress levels, insufficient sleep, and poor dietary choices are identified as major culprits.
Cardiologists also point to controllable risk factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, which are increasingly prevalent in younger demographics. Additionally, consumption of tobacco and alcohol exacerbates these risks.
Structural heart conditions present from childhood and Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) are also significant contributors to these fatalities. While COVID-19 vaccines are not considered a primary cause, experts suggest potential links between post-COVID complications and heart issues.
Undetected comorbidities like imbalanced blood sugar and blood pressure contribute to sudden cardiac events. Air pollution is also emerging as an additional risk factor, potentially accelerating atherosclerosis and heart disease development.
