A health emergency has gripped Chayansa, a village in Haryana's Palwal district, where at least 12 individuals, including five children, succumbed to severe liver-related complications over a 15-day period in late January and early February. Initial investigations point towards viral hepatitis and contaminated drinking water as probable causes.
The first jaundice-related deaths were reported on January 31 in the village of 5,700 residents. A rapid response team was promptly deployed, initiating medical camps and door-to-door surveys. Seven deaths occurred between January 27 and February 11, with four attributed to acute hepatitis or liver failure in victims aged nine to 65.
