Haryana's food safety authorities have conducted a significant crackdown, destroying about 50,000 kg of adulterated sweets and fake paneer. This operation, launched on October 1, is part of a statewide effort to ensure food safety ahead of Diwali celebrations. The drive has led to the collection of 1,288 samples, with 170 failing laboratory tests; 30 of these were declared unsafe for consumption.
The Health Minister emphasized the state's commitment to public health, directing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to increase inspections and enforce strict measures against adulteration. Joint teams are conducting raids, and vehicles are being checked at borders. Names of vendors with failed samples are being published online to inform consumers.
Furthermore, the manufacture and sale of analogue paneer are strictly prohibited, and sweet shops must disclose the type of fat used in their products. To expedite results, laboratories are prioritizing sample analysis within 48 hours, supported by five mobile testing units for immediate on-site checks. Consumers are encouraged to report suspected food adulteration.
