Haryana Cracks Down on Dubious Youth Health Products
9 Oct
Summary
- Haryana FDA inspected 61 establishments selling health supplements.
- 73 samples of nutraceuticals, protein powders, and energy drinks collected.
- Action taken against products with '100% natural' claims and missing details.
Haryana's 'drug-free Haryana' campaign has expanded its focus to scrutinize the quality of health products increasingly marketed to youth. Officials are concerned about the safety and accuracy of claims made for these supplements, often promoted for fitness and energy enhancement.
In response, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently conducted a statewide enforcement drive across all districts. This initiative involved inspecting 61 establishments, including manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. During the drive, 73 samples of nutraceuticals, protein powders, and energy drinks were collected for laboratory analysis to ensure compliance with safety standards.
The FDA stated that stringent actions will be implemented against any products found to be unsafe, substandard, or misbranded, based on the upcoming test results. Notably, in Rohtak, a product falsely labeled '100% natural' was seized for lacking essential details like expiry dates and manufacturer information. The FDA also plans to address sales of such products to minors and vulnerable populations without medical or dietary advice.
