A new collaborative care clinic commenced operations in Hampton, New Brunswick, on September 1st, marking a significant step in expanding primary healthcare access. This facility is staffed by six physicians, two practical nurses, a registered nurse, and a clinic manager, supported by three medical office assistants.
The clinic is projected to serve just over 3,900 patients in the Hampton area. A key objective is to eliminate the existing NB Health Link waitlist, which currently has 1,509 patients, within the next 12 to 18 months. Premier Susan Holt highlighted the model's success in attracting physicians and increasing primary care capacity province-wide.
The New Brunswick government is contributing approximately $2.2 million to Horizon Health Network to support the clinic's operational costs and the expansion of allied health services. This includes leasing a separate building for services like dietitians, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists. Recruitment for a social worker and additional medical office assistants is ongoing, with addictions and mental health services also planned.
Hampton's clinic is the 18th collaborative care center established by the provincial government since April 2025. The province has a broader target of establishing 30 such clinics by the end of 2028.
