H1N1 Cases Spike in Delhi-NCR
1 Aug
Summary
- Hospitals report jump in patients with fever, cough, and cold.
- Doctors see 7 to 10 H1N1 patients daily in OPD.
- Monsoon weather creates ideal conditions for flu viruses.

Delhi-NCR is currently grappling with a significant increase in H1N1 cases, a trend strongly linked to the prevailing monsoon weather. Over the past three to four weeks, hospitals have observed a noticeable rise in patients exhibiting respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, and cold. Daily outpatient departments are seeing an average of 7 to 10 H1N1 cases, alongside a mild uptick in COVID-19 infections.
The current weather patterns, characterized by rain, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures, are conducive to the proliferation of flu viruses like H1N1. This seasonal surge is further amplified by people spending more time indoors, increasing the likelihood of transmission. While most infections are mild and resolve within a week, vulnerable groups including the elderly, young children, and individuals with pre-existing conditions like diabetes or heart disease are at higher risk of complications.
Symptoms of H1N1 often include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, and fatigue, with some experiencing nausea or vomiting. Warning signs that necessitate immediate medical attention include difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, or a persistent high fever. Health experts recommend isolation for symptomatic individuals, mask-wearing around others, and prompt medical consultation if symptoms worsen to manage the illness effectively and prevent further spread.
