Gurugram Hospital Sets Up Ebola Isolation Facility
28 May
Summary
- Gurugram Civil Hospital establishes a six-bed Ebola isolation ward.
- Preparedness measures align with WHO's recent public health emergency declaration.
- The ward can be expanded if the situation requires further capacity.

Gurugram Civil Hospital has established a dedicated six-bed Ebola isolation ward to enhance preparedness amid heightened global surveillance. This initiative follows the World Health Organization's recent declaration of a public health emergency concerning outbreaks in Africa. Health officials confirmed the ward is situated on the ground floor of the Sector 10A facility, previously used for Covid-19 isolation.
The preparedness measures are in line with guidelines from the Union health ministry, issued after the WHO declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17, 2026. The standard operating procedure includes thermal screening of international passengers and monitoring travelers for symptoms within 21 days of arrival from affected regions.
As of late May 2026, the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa has resulted in at least 255 deaths, linked to the Bundibugyo strain. Uganda has reported multiple confirmed cases of the Sudan virus strain. No Ebola cases have been reported in India to date, but surveillance and preparedness efforts in Gurugram are being strengthened.
