- The service experienced a 21% increase in sessions last year.

The Guernsey Counselling Service (GCS) has secured a significant £45,000 grant from the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands. This funding, spread over three years, is crucial for expanding and sustaining the charity's operations, which are experiencing growing demand for mental health support.
Last year, GCS delivered 798 counselling sessions, marking a 21% increase compared to the previous year. The service has successfully helped reduce waiting times for mental health assistance. Chairman Martin Thornton emphasized the importance of accessible support, stating that many individuals would be unable to afford private counselling without charitable aid.
GCS operates on a flexible contribution model, encouraging clients to pay what they can afford. This ensures financial constraints do not prevent islanders from receiving necessary mental health and wellbeing support for issues like anxiety, depression, and trauma. The new funding provides GCS with essential stability to enhance its services.
