Women Critically Ill After C-Sections at Government Hospital
20 Jul
Summary
- Three women are in intensive care after developing severe post-C-section complications.
- Complications included low urine output, critically low platelet counts, and kidney issues.
- An official inquiry has suspended C-sections at the affected hospital pending investigation.

Three women who underwent caesarean sections at a Banswada government hospital are now in intensive care at NIMS Hyderabad due to serious post-operative complications. The patients, in their mid-20s, experienced low urine output, critically low platelet counts, and kidney issues after procedures on July 10 and 11. They were transferred to NIMS last week as their condition worsened.
Two of these women are now stable, but one remains critical, requiring further dialysis. The hospital has suspended all C-sections pending an official inquiry. Investigations are underway, with samples of medicines and IV fluids sent for testing. Preliminary sterility tests of the operation theatre and IV fluids reportedly showed no contamination.
While NIMS doctors suspect infection-related complications, possibly linked to medicines, Banswada hospital authorities state the exact cause is unknown. Inquiries are being conducted by senior gynaecologists and health officials to establish the root cause and determine any negligence. Two newborns delivered during the period were treated for physiological jaundice and discharged.
