Deceased Patient 'Recovers' After 42 Days in Government Hospital Error
12 Aug
Summary
- A nurse received a recovery message for her husband who died 42 days prior.
- The error occurred due to a delayed claim processing by a data entry operator.
- Hospital authorities stated the data entry operator responsible has been removed.

A shocking administrative error occurred when a nurse in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district received an automated message on August 10, 2026, stating her deceased husband had recovered and was returning home.
Seema Kujur's husband, Devnarayan Ram, a police constable, had died on June 30, 2026, during treatment at a government hospital in Surguja district. The message, sent via the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, caused significant distress to his family.
Hospital authorities attributed the error to a delay in processing Devnarayan's claim on the Ayushman Bharat portal. The claim closure was updated on August 6, 2026, weeks after his death, triggering the system-generated discharge message.
In response, the hospital removed the data entry operator responsible for the delay. They have also alerted the state nodal agency to cross-check deceased patient information before generating such messages, aiming to prevent similar distressing incidents.
