During a 'Sarkar Tumchea Dari' program in Margao on Saturday, Goa's Health Minister Vishwajit Rane encountered significant criticism from residents. Key issues raised included sewage overflow in the Comba area, which was reportedly contaminating wells and the River Sal. In response, the Margao Municipal Council chief officer was instructed to inspect the affected sites and submit a report, with the minister indicating a personal visit if necessary.
Further concerns were directed at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH). Residents highlighted a shortage of beds, delays in diagnostic reports, and poor facilities, necessitating transfers to Goa Medical College. Minister Rane assured that improvements are underway, including increasing ambulances, and noted that the hospital's cath lab, online payment system, and neurosurgery unit would soon be operational.
Additionally, citizens reported experiencing harassment and bureaucratic hurdles when attempting to obtain residence certificates from mamlatdar offices. The district collector was directed by the minister to streamline this application process immediately.
