11 May
Summary
- A young boy's leg was amputated due to gangrene after a fracture treatment.
- A medical officer was suspended for alleged negligence in the case.
- The incident involved improper plaster slab application by assisting staff.

A severe medical incident has led to the suspension of a doctor in Goa. A young boy suffered an injury to his left leg on April 27, requiring treatment at the Community Health Centre in Valpoi.
An X-ray revealed a fracture, and a plaster slab was applied by assisting staff. The boy later developed fever and vomiting, requiring referral to Goa Medical College. Unfortunately, gangrene set in, necessitating the amputation of his limb.
The internal committee's findings pointed to medical negligence, specifically citing the plaster slab application by staff without direct supervision. They also noted a lack of urgent orthopaedic consultation for the boy.
Consequently, Dr. Yavanti Gawade, the on-duty medical officer at the time, has been suspended with immediate effect pending further investigation.
