25 Feb
Summary
- Evening OPD now operational from 5 pm to 7 pm at GMSH-16.
- The new OPD offers services in medicine, surgery, and more.
- Initiative aims to strengthen secondary healthcare and reduce referrals.

Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, has initiated an evening outpatient department (OPD) service, operating daily from 5 pm to 7 pm. This move aligns with UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria's mandate to bolster secondary healthcare centers and improve patient accessibility to specialist services. The newly introduced OPD caters to essential departments including medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, and gynaecology.
During its trial run on Tuesday, the evening OPD successfully attended to 25 patients. This initiative mirrors a similar service previously offered by GMSH-16 in 2015, which utilized retired doctors to address faculty shortages. The current administration's focus is on transforming government hospitals into robust secondary care facilities.
This expansion of services is expected to reduce unnecessary patient referrals to tertiary care institutions like GMCH-32 and PGI. By ensuring specialist availability during extended hours, the aim is to deliver enhanced patient care and optimize the overall healthcare system's efficiency.
