Summary
- Evening OPD at GMSH-16 launched Feb 24, pilot project shows upward trend.
- Nearly 400 patients used the evening facility in its first six days.
- Medicine department sees highest patient footfall in evening OPD.

The Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16 (GMSH-16) has reported a significant positive response to its newly introduced evening Outpatient Department (OPD) facility. Launched on February 24 as a pilot project, the evening OPD has witnessed a consistent rise in patient numbers, with 395 individuals utilizing the service within its initial six days.
This initiative, currently operational in Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and Gynaecology departments, aims to alleviate pressure on the hospital's peak morning hours and emergency services. The Medicine department alone has served approximately 30% of the evening OPD patients, indicating its high demand and utility.
Officials believe the evening OPD is effectively serving patients who cannot attend during regular morning hours, thereby reducing non-critical visits to the Emergency department. Diagnostic services are being managed on a case-by-case basis for urgent investigations.
GMSH-16, which already serves around 3,500 regular OPD patients and 400 emergency cases daily, expects the evening OPD to help distribute patient load more evenly. The Health Department plans to expand this successful pilot to other departments and civil hospitals across the city if the positive trend continues, aiming to bolster public healthcare services.
