Girl, 6, Trapped in Old Body Faces Cruel Bullies

Aizza Akhil, a six-year-old girl from Wayanad, India, lives with a rare genetic condition known as Cutis Laxa. This extremely rare disorder, affecting approximately one in four million people globally, causes her skin to be loose, sagging, and wrinkled, leading to an appearance far beyond her years. Despite her unique physical challenge, Aizza shares the interests of many children her age, enjoying dancing, drawing, and playing with friends. Her bravery in navigating school life comes with significant emotional cost due to persistent bullying.

Classmates have subjected Aizza to taunts, with older students reportedly laughing and calling her 'grandma.' Her parents, Anjali and Akhil KC, are now focused on raising funds for plastic surgeries that could help remove excess skin and improve Aizza's appearance. The family first noticed signs of Cutis Laxa when Aizza was six months old. Doctors have warned that the condition will likely worsen with age, potentially impacting internal organs and immunity, and has already caused Aizza to struggle with a weak respiratory system.

The monthly cost of Aizza's medication and skin care products amounts to approximately 20,000 rupees (£160). This is a significant financial strain, as her father earns the equivalent of about £120 per month. A recent plastic surgery to address drooping skin around her eye cost the family nearly £800. The family hopes to secure donations to fund future treatments and provide Aizza with the best possible life. Following intervention from school staff, students have reportedly become more understanding of Aizza's condition.
