GIPMER's Neuro Lab Offers Cutting-Edge Vascular Treatments
28 Aug
Summary
- Neurovascular care access expanded for Delhi and nearby states.
- New procedures include stroke thrombectomy and aneurysm coiling.
- Facility integrates surgical and endovascular expertise for complex cases.

The Neuro Cath Lab at Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER) has successfully completed six months of service, broadening the availability of sophisticated neurovascular treatments for patients from Delhi and neighboring states. This specialized facility was inaugurated in February of this year and is equipped to perform diagnostic cerebral and spinal digital subtraction angiography, along with endovascular coiling of intracranial aneurysms and arteriovenous malformation embolisation.
Recently, the lab has commenced performing thrombectomy for acute stroke cases, a vital procedure in stroke management, in collaboration with the Neurology and Radiology departments. It is also actively handling complex neurovascular cases. A distinctive feature of this lab is its hybrid approach, which merges open microsurgical and endovascular techniques for tailored treatment planning. Furthermore, it provides fellowship and observership programs for neurosurgeons, fostering advanced training.
According to Professor Anita Jagetia, Head of Neurosurgery at GIPMER, the facility has notably improved the institute's capacity to manage intricate neurovascular conditions and acute stroke cases with advanced endovascular methods. This multidisciplinary unit has effectively bolstered GIPMER's capabilities in delivering high-level neurological care.
