Giant 2.5kg Adrenal Tumor Removed From Patient
20 Aug
Summary
- A massive 2.5kg adrenal tumor, measuring 24cm, was removed.
- Surgery involved complex dissection around vital abdominal organs.
- Patient experienced significant blood pressure fluctuations during operation.
A 2.5-kg adrenal tumor, spanning 24cm, has been surgically removed from a patient at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. This complex procedure necessitated the delicate separation of the giant mass from crucial abdominal organs, including the pancreas, spleen, and colon. The surgical team, led by uro oncologist Dr. Ashwin Mallya and gastro surgeon Dr. Suresh Singhvi, successfully navigated distorted anatomy and proximity to major blood vessels.
Managing the patient's blood pressure during the operation was a significant challenge due to potential fluctuations associated with large adrenal tumors. Dr. Nitin Sethi oversaw the anaesthetic management, while endocrinologist Dr. Setu Gupta helped stabilize the patient pre-operatively. The successful removal highlights the critical coordination among urology, gastro and liver surgery, endocrinology, and anaesthesia teams.
Giant adrenal tumors are rare and present considerable technical difficulties. This case underscores the importance of detailed imaging, meticulous pre-operative planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The patient has since been discharged and is undergoing regular follow-up and monitoring.
