Ganjam Launches Free Auto-Ambulance Service for Mothers
27 Apr
Summary
- Free auto-ambulance services launched for pregnant women and infants.
- Initiative named 'Nirikhyana Sathi' aims to help remote village deliveries.
- Around 100 auto-rickshaws will provide these essential services.

The Ganjam district administration has introduced a new initiative called "Nirikhyana Sathi" to provide free auto-ambulance services. This service is specifically designed to transport pregnant women and children under one year of age from remote and unconnected villages to nearby healthcare facilities. The program aims to facilitate smoother institutional deliveries, especially in areas where traditional ambulances cannot easily access.
The 'Nirikhyana Sathi' auto-ambulances will be available on call via WhatsApp numbers provided to expectant mothers and Asha workers. These drivers will ferry women for essential check-ups, including three scheduled ultrasound tests, and for delivery. The district administration will cover the auto-ambulance fares using funds from the district Red Cross. This initiative is part of a broader 'Nirikhyana' program launched in 2023 to offer free ultrasound facilities to pregnant women.
