Free Bus Travel for Pregnant Moms in Need
24 Jul
Summary
- Pregnant women will receive free travel passes for hospital appointments.
- A partnership aims to provide 100 passes monthly until March.
- Support targets women from minority and disadvantaged communities.

Vulnerable pregnant women in Leeds will benefit from free travel passes to attend essential hospital appointments. This initiative is a collaboration between First Bus and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Up to March of next year, 100 travel passes will be provided each month. These passes are intended for women, particularly those from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds, who struggle to afford public transport for their medical appointments.
This program addresses a barrier identified by the trust, where approximately 100 pregnant women monthly miss appointments due to lack of transport funding. The free passes are expected to significantly improve access to scans, labor, and emergency obstetric care.
First Bus will assess travel needs and financial situations during initial maternity appointments. The trust will monitor the impact of this support on clinic attendance and maternal/infant outcomes.
